After the early death of the head of the family, Erwin Patscheider, in 1977, his wife Isolde continued to run the business. Soon afterwards, in 1986, the oldest son, a passionate ski racer at the time, took over the running of the small department store. Over the following years, Franz gradually turned the family business into a specialist retailer for sportswear, leisure fashion and traditional costumes.
His ideas constantly introduced new innovations to Serfaus as an internationally popular skiing and holiday destination. Especially the concept of the check-in shop at the valley station of the Komperdell cable car line and the take-off centre by the halfway station, with their wide range of services for the resort guests, was an innovative new idea for improving the holiday experience of visitors to Serfaus. Another shop was added practically every year, always also with the aim of creating long-term jobs in the region.

In cooperation with the Serfaus cable car and the new Komperdell cable car, a new dimension of service is being created in the new Check In area, covering over 3,000 m². Patscheider Sport is presenting a world first in terms of depot space with its patented Check Box, which has space for gloves and a helmet in addition to ski boots.
