Our history

Erwin Patscheider established the "Serfauser Kaufhäusl", a small department store at Untere Dorfstrasse, in 1953. It sold a range of everyday necessities, from food to sports equipment, fashion and tobacco.

That same year, the initial goods cable car line, which had previously transported all goods from Serfaus village up to the Kölner Haus mountain lodge, was also converted into a passenger cable car line with a regular service. This innovation laid the foundation stone for ski tourism in Serfaus, which had still been in its infancy up to that time. An increasing number of ski lifts was constructed over the following years, and the Serfaus and Fiss ski area was gradually expanded and developed.

After the early death of the head of the family, Erwin Patscheider, in 1977, his wife Isolde continued to run the business. Soon afterwards, in 1986, the oldest son, a passionate ski racer at the time, took over the running of the small department store. Over the following years, Franz gradually turned the family business into a specialist retailer for sportswear, leisure fashion and traditional costumes.

His ideas constantly introduced new innovations to Serfaus as an internationally popular skiing and holiday destination. Especially the concept of the check-in shop at the valley station of the Komperdell cable car line and the take-off centre by the halfway station, with their wide range of services for the resort guests, was an innovative new idea for improving the holiday experience of visitors to Serfaus. Another shop was added practically every year, always also with the aim of creating long-term jobs in the region.
